Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

This Subject Guide provides you with many GIS resources which can enable you to successfully use GIS for your research and coursework.

Virtual Campus Training

Esri offers web-based training classes, many are free to CWRU students, staff and faculty. The web-based training classes typically require 6-24 hours to complete the lessons and corresponding exercises. You will receive a printable certificate upon completion. Please refer to the ESRI Course Catalog for the complete list of courses and course descriptions.  We recommend starting with Learning ArcGIS Desktop (for 10) if you have never used ArcGIS before.

Visit Esri's E-Learning site to learn more and to access the training.  You will need to create an Esri Account first (use your CWRU email), and then connect your Esri Account to CWRU's organization.  CWRU's Esri customer number is 40042.  Please note, it may take up to 24 hours before you are "connected" and will be permitted to access the training.

On Campus Training

The Center for Statistics and Geospatial Data (CSGD) coordinates training for ArcGIS and GoogleMaps. Training dates for upcoming training sessions are posted on this guide and via the GISusers listserv  (Mailing List).

Free on-campus training classes for Case students, staff, and faculty are available through the CaseLearns program.  Non-Case may also register (space permitting) for $100.
