Variety of Access Methods

The Kelvin Smith Library provides various resources that include access to The New York Times (NYT) content. Depending on the years desired or the purpose of the research need, one access point may be the best choice.

New Yorks Times - Current Years through NYTimes.com

With a Kelvin Smith Library provided NYTimes.com pass, you have full access to the extensive breaking news, world news, and multimedia of The New York Times without needing your own subscription. Enjoy full access to NYTimes.com, NYT.com, and NYT mobile apps from any device.

Once activated from within the Case Western Reserve University's network, an NYTimes.com pass can be used from any location until expiration documented upon enrollment confirmation (typically one year).

Access includes:

  • Unlimited access on NYTimes.com (There is no daily limit to the number of articles you can download.)
  • Archives (dating back to 1851; 5 PDF article downloads from Times Machine per user per day)
  • Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality - found in the App; NYT stories told through enhanced technology
  • Daily 360 content - two dimensional, 360° views (with a mobile device or using a mouse)
  • Podcasts (including The "Daily" podcast)
  • All multimedia, including video, photography, VR features, and new multimedia to come.
  • Newsletters (there are a variety of topics that you may subscribe to)
  • Spanish and Mandarin Chinese versions of NYTimes.com.
  • Select NYTimes events only open to subscribers, students, and faculty.
  • Cooking and Wirecutter are not part of the subscription agreement, but access is being provided in error to your benefit. This is due to the tenure of the account and if interrupted, it can’t be restored.
  • Unlimited access to two great learning tools: The New York Times in Education website and The Learning Network.

The In Education and Learning Network sites feature:

  • Over 1,000 resources are published each year to ensure materials are relevant and up to date
  • Lesson plans
  • News and geography quizzes
  • Student opinion questions
  • Picture prompts and graph prompts
  • Current events conversations
  • Writing curriculum
  • Contests
  • Professional development webinars
