Type of photo materials scanned and how to scan them.

The Scanner

Located in the Freedman Center Lab at Station #1 on the 1st floor, the Photo Negative - Photo Slide Scanner requires the checkout of a Freedman Center USB key at the Service Center Desk.

The Photo Negative - Photo Slide Scanner captures the highest resolution/ PPI (Pixels per Inch) for negatives and photo slides. In App-Functions allow for photo editing before the first scans are made.

Alternatives: Our Flatbed scanner scans high quality flat image, and scanning time is dependent on resolution settings chosen. 

Lending Policies

Available for checkout at Service Center to:

→ CWRU, CIA & CIM students, faculty, and staff.

→ CWRU Alumni, Public or Visiting patrons must complete the "Public Patron Use Form" before receiving equipment key. 

3 hour lending period.

Key MUST be returned to the Service Center.

NO bookdrop returns permitted.

→ Key MAY NOT leave the library for any reason.

NO holds on equipment.

Types of Materials Scanned

Any type of photo material should be handled with clean hands away from liquids or food. Use the provided nitrile gloves to keep your photos fingerprint free; soft bristled brushes to gently remove dust and lint.

 

Photo Negatives are flat, transparent strips of multiple photographic images. Light tones will appear darker, dark tones will appear lighter on the negatives. Color (top negative) or Black & White (bottom negative) negatives are shown.

 

 

 

Photo Slides are single, transparent photographic positives encased in either a paper or plastic sleeves. Light tones will appear light, while dark tones will appear dark. These photos will appear in color
