File Conversion

This guide will show you how to change the format of various file types.

Before We Get Started

This guide will take you through the steps of creating a MPEG-4 Video file to be used in powerpoint presentations both on Macs and PCs.

  • Make sure that you have a standard definition video file ready to be converted to an MPEG-4 saved onto the D-Drive.
  • Additionally, be sure that the version of Powerpoint on your personal computer (the one where the file and Powerpoint will be presented from) is up to date. Some options include Powerpoint 2016, 2013, or 2010 with Quicktime installed.

Preparing Your Video

Regardless of which type of machine (mac or PC) you plan to use the video on, follow these steps:

Note: Larger pictures and more detailed instructions are available for this first section in the Encoding/Transcoding guide.

  • Open TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 6 from the Video folder.

  • From the menu, select Start New Project - Normal Mode.

  • Select "From Files" to open your video.

  • While opening, a pop up (below) will appear. Select Yes or No based on your preference.

  • Once your file is open you will be brought to the editing area. From here, use the cut-edit tools in the cut-edit tab to trim your video as needed, setting start and end points.

  • Click on the Filters tab at top, opening the filters menu. Select "Deinterlace" from the left side bar, and in the dropdown menu, select "Deinterlace Always"

  • In the same side bar, scroll to find the "volume adjustment" box. Click on it to bring up an options menu. Check the "Enable volume adjustment" box, and select "Volume normalization" from the dropdown.

  • Once done with editing, click Ok.
  • You should now be on the edit tab. In the top left, click on the tab labeled "format".

PC Users Process

PC users follow these steps, Mac users scroll down to the next section.

  • In the Format Output window, select MPEG-4 (AVC) file output, then click select.

  •  If you need to limit file size, find the box Bitrate/Quality in the bottom right corner.
    • Limit the maximum bitrate to 8Mbps.

  • Then click on the Encode tab at the top of the window.
  • Choose a location to save your file, and a name for your file. Once ready, click Start.
