What is in the equipment kit and how to use.

Checking - Out

KSL's current loanable technology collection are found at the Tech Table, directly to the right of the Service Center. Staff will retrieve your desired kit if available and check it out at the Service Center with an appropriate CWRU or CIM ID.

Available for checkout to CWRU & CIM students, faculty, and staff at the Service Center. CWRU Alumni, CIA, Public or Visiting patrons are not permitted to check out loanable equipment kits.

Treatment of Equipment

Please treat the kit as if it were your own. Let us know if you have lost or damaged the equipment. You're only financially responsible for the loss or damages, not the entire kit.

Toggling Between Yards or Meters

1. To switch between yards or meters, power on device by holding down the 'Power' button the top of the screen.

2. While on, hold down the 'Mode' button for 2 seconds.

3. Within the viewfinder, a 'M' or 'YD' will replace the previous measuring mode.

→ 'M' meaning Meters.

→ 'YD' meaning Yards.

Diopter (Focus Wheel) Adjustment

1. Power on Range Finder.

2. Rotate the diopter counterclockwise until the arrow points to the '-' sign.

3. Look through the eyepiece to view the internal LCD display.

4. While looking through the eyepiece, begin to turn the diopter until the target becomes clear.

→ If the diopter is not in focus, the distance reading will not be accurate.

Measuring Distance

Have a direct, uninterrupted and focused view of the target in order to get an accurate measurement.

1. Power on device. The device's internal LCD display will standby like the following:

2. Aim at target.

3. Adjust diopter (focus wheel) to focus in target

→ If the diopter is not in focus, the distance reading will not be accurate.

4. Press Power button once to start measurement. For a successful measurement, 3 vertical dashes will occupy the space directly to the left of your desired unit of measure.  For continuous measurement, hold down the power button for up to 8 seconds.

 Measuring                                               Successful Measurement

5. Measured results will remain on the display for another 8 seconds as long as the power button isn't pressed again to initiate another measurement.

Troubleshooting

Non-visible laser measures distance and will reflect incorrectly off of mirrors, glass, or other such surfaces. Ensure that you have a direct, uninterrupted and focused view of target to get an accurate measurement.

Blinking LCD Measurement Dashes

Where a distance would be calculated, 3 dashes blink.

A failed measurement will produce blinking dashes on the LCD display next to your desired unit of measurement.

→ To prevent the above from occurring:

1. Ensure that you are free from reflective surfaces (i.e. not measuring through a window pane) and have a direct, focused view of target.

Flashing or Absent Battery Symbol

           Flashing Battery                       Absent/ Empty Battery

Anything regarding the battery symbol means a battery replacement is required. Return to the Service Center and request a new battery. We test our batteries before adding them to kits but sometimes, mistakes occur.
