What is in the equipment kit and how to borrow.

 KSL's current loanable technology collection are found at the Tech Table, directly to the right of the Service Center. Staff will retrieve your desired kit if available and check it out at the Service Center with an appropriate CWRU or CIM ID. 

Available for checkout to CWRU & CIM students, faculty, and staff at the Service Center. CWRU Alumni, CIA, Public or Visiting patrons are not permitted to check out loanable equipment kits. 

Treatment of Equipment

Please treat the kit as if it were your own. Let us know if you have lost or damaged the equipment. You're only financially responsible for the loss or damages, not the entire kit. 

Playing a DVD

DVD Software: VLC Media Player

User must download VLC Media before viewing. VLC viewing can be accomplished over Zoom if required.

1. Attach the Blu-Ray player to your personal computer or checked-out laptop. 

2. Insert the DVD you wish to view and close the disc reader.

The device will begin to run at this point but VLC may not open automatically.

3. To open VLC, search your computer's menu for "VLC Media Player" and open the software. 

4. On the VLC home screen and under 'Media,' choose "Open Disc."

5. Toggle 'DVD' and click 'Play.' Your film will begin to play.

Playing a Blu-Ray with VLC Media Player

Blu-Ray Software: VLC Media Player with Encoder Error Fix

Users must toggle correct disc format in VLC Media before viewing. Otherwise, VLC Media will not recognize the disc, attempt to read it as a DVD, and fail to do so. A separate "Encoder Error" fix will also need to be downloaded to read encrypted Blu-Rays. 

1. Attach the Blu-Ray player to your personal computer or checked-out laptop.

2. Insert the DVD you wish to view and close the disc reader. The device will begin to run at this point.

3. To open VLC, search your computer's menu for "VLC Media Player" and open the software. 

4. On the VLC home screen and under 'Media,' choose "Open Disc." 

5. Toggle 'Blu-Ray' and click 'Play.' Your film will begin to play.

 

VLC Media Error: "Encoder Error"

 The following encryption error may occur when attempting to play. To remedy this, the Encoder Error downloads must be added to your computer for VLC to watch Blu-Ray films.

Download the indicated files and place them in their respective places on your computer. Once they are downloaded, reopen VLC Media and following the above steps, your film should play.

Playing a Blu-Ray with LEAWO

Blu-Ray Software: LEAWO Blu-Ray Player

User must download LEAWO Blu-Ray Player before viewing.

1. Attach the Blu-Ray player to your personal computer or checked-out laptop. 

2. Insert the Blu-Ray you wish to view and close the disc reader.

The device will begin to run at this point but LEAWO may not open automatically.

3. To open LEAWO, search your computer's menu for "LEAWO" or "Blu-Ray Player" and open the software. 

4. On the homepage of LEAWO, click the dropdown of "Play Disc" and choose your film. OR use the top left "LEAWO Blu-Ray Player" drop down to select "File," "Play Disc," then your film. Your film will begin to play.
