What are technical standards?

Standards are industry norms and specifications that provide guidance on how materials and services are to be designed and manufactured. Standards are developed by different industry associations for the benefit of their members and the industry as whole but compliance is not mandatory, just recommended. By promoting uniformity and reliability, standards and are an essential resource in engineering and related disciplines.

Citing Standards

There is no specific style manual for standards; instead, the style depends on discipline or journal. Complete references for a standard should include the title, document number, publication date, and the publisher.
