Working with Photoshop

Learn how to use Photoshop to set up a Photoshop File and how to export it in JPG format.

For additional information on how to use Photoshop, check this guide:

Setting up a Photoshop File

Your Art of STEM image can be created in any program but can be no larger than 24"x18" @ 300DPI.

If it helps... We have created this template and instructions to guide you through creating a canvas that is 24"x18" @ 300DPI in Photoshop.

This Photoshop Template can be used to start your STEM image. It is 24"x18" @ 300DPI.

This is the maximum size your image can be.

If you would prefer to start from scratch:

In Photoshop click File > New

  1. Set Units to Inches
  2. Set Width & Height of final Collage (such as 24" x 18").
  3. Set Resolution to 300 Pixels/Inch
  4. Set Color Mode to RGB - 8 Bit

That's it! Once you get started, be sure NOT to Crop or Rotate the entire canvas.

Your layered file will save as a Photoshop Document.  The final file should be exported as a JPG file (see next tutorial).

Exporting a JPG from Photoshop

Once you have created your final image, you will need to export a high quality JPG file for submission.

From Photoshop, click File > Save As

In the dropdown select JPG and name the file: YourLastNameFirstInitial-STEM.jpg

After you hit save it will bring up this options box: Slide the slider to Quality: 12

And click OK.  Now all you have to do is upload to Google Drive and Share with ArtofStem@Case.edu (see next tutorial)
