Wikipedia Editing Project: Images

Image use policy

An image can be an important part of a Wikipedia entry.  When looking for images to upload to your page, please keep in mind Wikipedia's image use policy.  All images need to either be your own work, freely licensed, in the public domain, or fall under a fair use exception.

When getting permission to use a photo in your Wikipedia article, be sure that you also gather as much of the following information as possible.  More detail is available on Wikipedia.  Without the bolded items, it's unlikely you will be able to use the photo:

  • An Image copyright tag (preferably creative commons or public domain)
  • Description
  • Origin (source)
  • Author (creator)
  • Permission
  • Date it was created
  • Location where it was created
  • Rationale for use (only required for non-free images).
