On the top left of the screen are the scanning options based on the film type you intend to scan. Select Positive, Kodachrome or Negative. Refer back to Before You Scan for questions about determining film type.

After you selected your film type, you need to select your Color Settings, this is the button to the right of the Film Type button, select:
For Color Slides/Film: 48 - 24 bit
For Black & White Film: 16 - 8 bit
Advanced users might select one of the HDR RAW settings instead.

In the Scan Dimensions box, drag the red dot on the Res. slider bar all the way to the right to 7200 ppi (pixels per inch). This is the highest resolution the scanner can scan at and will give you all information on the slide or negative. The scan will take about 4 minutes.
Note: You can scan at a lower resolution for a faster scan but it could mean more handling of the slides or negatives in the future.

Pre-scanning is an optional step that takes about a minute, and shows you what the frame looks like. Any potential dust or dirt still on the film / slide will be easily visible, and if you are undecided on the image, pre-scanning provides you a shorter alternative to see the image up-close without performing a 4 minute scan.

On the top middle of the screen, select Scan.
You can monitor the progress in the lower left-hand corner.
At 7200ppi, the scan will take about 4 minutes.
