University-level libraries offer a wide variety of topical and subject specific reference collections. Many of the entries for terminology, key concepts and topics, people, ...etc. in these works include multi-page essays and bibliographies. Make sure to take full advantage of these collections, both in print and online.
Types of reference works include:
Use the names of reference types in keyword searches to find the sections of Case Libraries reference collection that address your topic.
The library catalog can be used to find books by keyword and subject on your topic. In a subject search, for example, notice that there are many results for general subject heading searches such as:
There are also multiple subject categories covering particular time periods, geographic regions, specific subjects, resource types, .. etc. You can also refine your catalog searches by using the Advanced Search mode for the online library catalog and applying some limits, such as a publication date range, wildcard symbols, geographic region, and additional topical keyword terms.
Also remember that using the Search OhioLINK button on the search results page will expand your search. This is very useful if you need a book when our copy is unavailable, or if Case Libraries does not own a specific book that you need. You can also use the Search OhioLINK button if you want to expand your keyword or subject heading search from our holdings to those from the OhioLINK catalog. And, you can apply the same search refinements and limits in OhioLink as you would in the Case Libraries online catalog.
