Before we get stated

To use the self service faxing you must be a faculty member, staff member, or student at Case Western. Faculty and staff in the School of Dental Medicine may also not use this service due to HIPAA restrictions. You must also have access to your Case Western email account. If you need help, please see a Freedman Center student assistant for help sending a fax. 

You should have you file saved in one of the following formats:

  • Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Documents
  • GIF, JPEG, PNG, TIFF and Bitmap Images
  • HTML Files
  • PDF and PostScript Files
  • Text Files

Sending a fax by email

To send a fax by email:

  1. From your Case Western email account, create a new email message and address it to: <faxnumber>@fax.case.edu
    1. The fax number must be either be a 7-digit number in the 216 area code or a 10-digit domestic number
    2. International faxing is not currently available
  2. Attach a document or documents to be faxed
  3. A cover page will be automatically included on the fax. To include text on the cover page, enter that text as the body of the email message.
  4. Send your message.
  5. You will receive a response from the Fax server indicating the success or failure, usually within a few minutes.
  6. You can also view the status and previous faxes at fax.case.edu for 60 days.

Sending a fax over the web

To send a fax via web interface:

  1. Visit fax.case.edu
  2. If prompted by your browser, enter your CWRU network ID and password
  3. Click the blue Compose Fax button in the upper-left corner of the screen.
  4. Complete the items on the Compose tab:
    1. The phone number must be either be a 7-digit number in the 216 area code or a 10-digit domestic number.
    2. Recipient name and company are optional
    3. Subject and comments will appear on the cover page
    4. Attach a document or documents to be faxed
    5. Click the More Recipients... button to add additional recipients
  5. Click the Sender & Company Information tab and customize your information, if required. These details also appear on the fax cover page.
    1. Please do not edit the Billing Information fields. This service is free, but these fields are used for improvement of the service.
  6. Press Submit
  7. You will receive a response from the Fax server indicating the success or failure, usually within a few minutes.
  8. You can view your outbound faxes sent on the website or via email for up to 60 days after they are sent
