Kulas Media

The Kulas media collection includes dvds and cds. We no longer circulate LP records, cassettes, or VHS tapes.
DVDs and CD discs are filed in accession order. CD liner notes are filed using ANSCR (see subpage).

Oversize CD containers, booklets, and boxes sets are filed in accession order, but are stored in separate cabinets.

To search a call number in the catalog, use the 'keyword' index and enter the CD number prefaced by CD, leaving no space between the letters and numbers.

Lending procedure

Users can borrow discs or liner notes separately, but most will want to borrow both together.
They may bring you a liner note and ask for the accompanying disc (which saves you a step).

To borrow a CD disc, a patron must have a call number.

The disc call number should match the last four (or five) digits in the ANSCR number.

To get a disc:
You’ll need the gold key from the service center cabinet
The same key should work on any of the brown cabinet drawers
Keys are kept in the clear plastic box labeled KULAS

Drawers are labeled with disc number ranges.

Open the appropriate drawer and locate the disc by its 4-digit number
Make sure digits match the last 4 (or 5) of the liner note label

Bring disc (and sleeve) to service center

To check out:
Retrieve an empty DVD case from the service center cabinet
Scan the barcode on the back of the Tyvek sleeve

Scan the barcode on the back of the liner note

Gently remove the disc from its Tyvek sleeve and place it in the DVD case
Keep the Tyvek sleeve. It does not go with the patron
The liner note can stay in its clear sleeve. Tuck it inside the DVD case

Remind patron: CDs circulate for 7 days, please return to the service center (not bookdrop)
File Tyvek sleeve in cabinet (bottom drawer, gray Hollinger box)

To check in:

Reunite CD disc with Tyvek sleeve, scan barcode
Scan liner note barcode
Return empty DVD case to storage cabinet and refile items

CD storage and care

Kulas CDs are separated into two circulating items: liner notes and discs.

Liner notes

Liner notes live in clear plastic sleeves.
Each item is identified with an ANSCR label in the upper left corner
They are arranged in ANSCR musical categories
Categories are labeled with white cards noting where each section begins

Patrons are welcome to browse liner notes, but are encouraged to leave unneeded liner notes in the marked basket on the white top counter next to the CD cabinet. Please ‘mark used’ in Sierra before refiling.

Discs
CD discs live in the browser drawers (directly underneath liner notes).
Discs are arranged in numerical order.
Lower numbers begin in the cabinet directly opposing the music reference collection.

Higher numbers are in the cabinet next to the WEPA printer.
